Safe Driver Insurance Plan Regulation

The Safe Driver Insurance Plan Regulation (SDIP)
  • provides for the collection and exchange of private passenger motor vehicle insurance claim and traffic law violation data
  • defines the point-based system that lowers premiums for drivers with clean driving records, and increases premiums for drivers with traffic violations and at-fault accidents

The SDIP system of surcharges and credits may apply if:
  • your company has elected to use the SDIP as its merit rating plan, or
  • your insurance policy is written through the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Plan (MAIP). Refer to the MAIP Consumer Guide.

To learn more about the Safe Driver Insurance Plan (SDIP) and how it applies to auto insurance policies read the SDIP and Your Auto Insurance Policy section of this Website.
