Non-Criminal Citation issued after January 1, 1992:

If you received a non-criminal citation after January 1, 1992, you may pay the citation either online, by telephone, by mail or in person.

Online Payments

You may pay the citation, late fee, and release fee online - You may not pay a reinstatement fee online.

Telephone Payments

You may pay the citation, late fee, release fee and/or reinstatement fee by calling the Contact Center Mon-Fri from 9:00am to 5:00pm at one of the telephone numbers below:

  • 857-368-8000 from Massachusetts area codes 339/617/781/857 or from outside of Massachusetts
  • 800-858-3926 from all other Massachusetts area codes not listed above
  • If you are in Massachusetts and are deaf and hard of hearing, please call 877-768-8833

In Person Payment

Citations and any additional fees may be paid in person at any RMV Service Center.

Non-Criminal Citation issued before January 1, 1992:

If you have defaulted on a non-criminal civil citation, you will need to visit the court where the case originated and obtain a "green release" form. Please bring the green court release form to any RMV Service Center.

There is a $10.00 filing fee to remove each default. If your license or right to operate was suspended as a result, you must pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee. If the court's green release indicates a "guilty" finding, you may be directed to see an RMV Hearings Officer. Please refer to the Hearing Sites and Schedules section for more information.
