If you would like to trace the history of a vehicle, you may request a copy of either the RMV computer record of the previous owner(s), or photocopies of the actual title application and supporting documents. RMV documents are no longer considered public records so you must complete a Request for Personal Information Application.
If you are requesting only copies of the application and supporting documents that you submitted at the time of titling, the Request for Personal Information Application is not required.
A $10.00 fee per title application is required for photocopies of the RMV-1 application and supporting documents.
A $5.00 fee is required for each RMV computer record requested.
Please allow seven (7) to ten (10) business days after receipt of the application for your request to be processed and mailed. If you have any questions, call the Title Division at 857-368-8050.
To obtain a Title History Search:
- Complete a request for Photocopy of RMV-1 and a Request for Personal Information.
These forms are available at any full service RMV branch office or you may call the Telephone Center and access the forms menu to have these forms sent to you. You may also download the Request for Personal Information form from our Download Forms page.
- Mail the completed request for History Search, the Request for Personal Information and a check with the appropriate fee(s), payable to MassDOT to:
