RMV Low Number License Plate Lottery Drawing Scheduled for September 7
Lottery license plate drawings begin at 8 p.m., on WBZ AM 1030

BOSTON – Wednesday, September 6, 2017 – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced today that Registrar of Motor Vehicles Erin Deveney will host the drawing for the Registry’s 2017 Low Number License Plate Lottery on Thursday, September 7. The drawing will begin at 8:00 p.m., and will be broadcast “live” on WBZ AM 1030.

All available low number plates will be drawn Thursday night and lottery applicants and low-number plate enthusiasts can listen to the drawing by tuning in to AM 1030 or by visiting the station website:

This year, 11,720 low plate lottery applications have been submitted for 162 eligible plates. In 2016, the Registry received 8,600 applications, for 183 plates.

Available low plate numbers for this year’s lottery include 4455, 8888, 33E, 8J, M88, and X1.

Entries for the 2017 lottery had to be mailed or postmarked by August 25, 2017, to be eligible for the drawing. While there was no cost to apply to the lottery, if an applicant is selected as a winner, there is a fee to receive the license plate and there is a standard registration fee.

Low number plates must be renewed every two years.

The names of all low number license plate winners are anticipated to be posted on the Registry’s website by close of business on Friday, September 8. In addition, each successful applicant will receive a letter from the Registry that includes instructions on how to register the new low number plate.

With a strong commitment to a personalized customer experience, the Registry of Motor Vehicles enables customer mobility and consumer safety across the Commonwealth. Customers are encouraged to visit to process over 25 transactions, access checklists to “Get Ready to Go”, and sign-up to receive RMV News.
